This
web site is designed to address an issue that may be shared by many
institutions. The severe budget cuts in the 1980s and 1990s meant
that many libraries were forced to suspend journal subscriptions.
This has resulted in gaps in paper holdings for some journals. The
problem is especially vexing when those journals are not being made
available on line in digital storage systems such as JSTOR, or if
the accesss fees for such services are yet prohibitive.
So,
in the tradition of sports trading cards, I’ve created a “Need
‘em/Got ‘em” list to facilitate some charitable
sharing and some environmentally friendly reusing and recycling.
I am inviting scholars who need issues or a run of a particular
journal to send me their requests. Similarly, if you have journals
you are keen to unload, let me know. I know that as friends and
colleagues move jobs or retire, and cull or clear out their office(s),
they are often burdened with a stack of printed journals that their
own library already owns and for which they no longer have any use.
Why not send those copies to a colleague who could give them a home?
This
page is intended only to put those who need in touch with those
who have. If you are willing to send materials to a colleague, the
costs of shipping are your own responsibility (or you can work something
out privately). Please do inform me if your journals on offer are
taken (or if your requests have been filled) so I may remove you
from the list.
