Western Conference on British Studies
2026 Annual Meeting
Call for Papers
University of North Texas in Denton, Texas
9 October 2026
We are excited to announce that our next WCBS annual conference will be held at the University of North Texas on October 9th, 2026.
This year, WCBS continues with an open theme for its conference. Scholars are invited to pursue all aspects of British studies. The deadline for panel and paper proposals will be March 31st, 2026. The WCBS Program Committee seeks to design a meeting that is both interdisciplinary and wide-ranging in its temporal span. Scholars of Britain, the British Atlantic World, and the British Empire broadly defined are invited to participate.
Professor Ginger Frost of Samford University will give the plenary address.
The committee welcomes proposals for both individual papers and full panels, and it encourages graduate student submissions. Proposals should include a 250-word abstract of each paper and a short curriculum vitae for each participant. Full panel proposals should also include a brief description of the panel’s overall aim and indicate clearly the panel’s organizer and primary contact.
Graduate students should be aware that the WCBS sponsors the Bob McJimsey Graduate Student Paper Award for the paper judged best graduate student paper presented at the annual conference. We are delighted to announce that Ashley Birdsall won this award for her paper “Nervous Piece of Flesh: Medical Misogyny and the Clitoris in Seventeenth Century English Medicine,” presented at the 2025 conference.
Please submit proposals, in Word format, via email with ‘WCBS 2026’ in the subject line to conference@wcbs.org
